System requirements
County of Fortune is not a hardware monster on paper. The official minimum is an Intel i3, 3 GB of RAM and a GeForce 770 / R9 290; the recommended build doubles the RAM and moves up one GPU tier. The real test comes when your county fills with settlements, vendors and production chains.
Official system requirements
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7 or higher (64-bit) | Windows 7 or higher (64-bit) |
| Processor | Intel i3+ or equivalent | Intel i5+ or equivalent |
| Memory | 3 GB RAM | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce 770 / AMD R9 290 | NVIDIA GeForce 970 / AMD R9 390 |
| Storage | 2 GB available space | 2 GB available space |
| Notes | 64-bit processor and OS required | 64-bit processor and OS required |
Specs taken from the Steam store page on 30 October 2026. Linux / SteamOS uses the same processor, memory, graphics and storage requirements.
What the specs mean in practice
The listed hardware is old by 2026 standards. A GeForce 770 and 3 GB of RAM were mid-range around 2013–2014. That is good news if you have an older desktop: the game is designed to run on modest hardware. It also means the bottleneck is more likely to be simulation load than raw graphics.
County of Fortune simulates multiple settlements, production buildings, vendors and political entities at once. As your county grows, the CPU has more to track. If you are near the minimum, expect longer simulation ticks and slower UI response in a large late-game county, even if the frame rate looks acceptable.
| Your PC | Expectation | Advice |
|---|---|---|
| At or below minimum | Playable small county, heavy slowdown late | Keep settlements compact, limit regions, lower graphics settings |
| Between min and recommended | Comfortable through level 2–3 | 4 GB+ RAM, SSD, latest drivers; avoid huge trade networks |
| At or above recommended | Comfortable through level 4 | More headroom for large counties; 8 GB RAM is still worthwhile |
| Modern gaming PC | CPU-bound only in extreme counties | Cap frame rate if fan noise or heat is an issue |
Steam itself has not supported Windows 7 or 8 since January 2024. Treat Windows 10 or 11 as the practical requirement, even though the store page still lists Windows 7.
Steam Deck and Linux
A native Linux build is listed, and SteamOS is effectively a Linux target. That makes a Steam Deck release plausible, but Valve had not issued an official compatibility rating at the time of writing. Two things could hold it back: the dense UI and the mouse-heavy interaction.
If you try it on Deck, expect to use the trackpads and possibly a custom controller layout. The game’s tiny tooltips and production-chain panels are designed for a desktop monitor. Performance in a large county is unverified.
Performance tips for large counties
- Update your GPU driver. City builders often rely on newer drivers for stability, even when the visuals are simple.
- Use an SSD. Loading and saving a large county is noticeably faster, and the game only needs 2 GB of space.
- Close background apps. With 3–4 GB of RAM, a browser with many tabs can matter more than the GPU.
- Limit the number of active regions. Each region adds simulation and political overhead; consolidate before expanding.
- Reduce shadows and crowd density if the game offers those settings. Visual load scales with the number of buildings on screen.
- Save often. Early Access builds can have performance regressions after updates; keep a rolling save.
- Do not judge performance from a paused game. Let the simulation run for a few minutes at normal speed before deciding it is smooth.
Platform availability
County of Fortune is a PC-first release: Windows and Linux / SteamOS via Steam. There is no macOS build, and no PlayStation, Xbox or Switch version has been announced. It is not on Xbox Game Pass.

Quick answers
County of Fortune performance questions
Can my PC run County of Fortune?
If your PC meets the minimum — a 64-bit Windows system, Intel i3-class CPU, 3 GB RAM, GeForce 770 / R9 290 and 2 GB storage — the game should launch. For comfortable late-game counties, aim for the recommended i5, 4 GB RAM and GeForce 970 / R9 390.
Is County of Fortune on Steam Deck?
A Linux / SteamOS build exists, but Valve had not issued an official Steam Deck compatibility rating at the time of writing. The UI is dense and designed for mouse and keyboard, so expect some control friction even if it runs.
Does County of Fortune support Mac?
No. The Steam store lists Windows and Linux / SteamOS, but not macOS. There is no announced Mac version.
Why does the game need only 2 GB of storage?
That is the storage figure listed on Steam for the current build. It may increase as Early Access adds buildings, products, maps and visual assets. Keep some headroom for saves and updates.
