County of Fortune is a medieval county-building strategy game by Nepos Games and Aquila Interactive. You found multiple settlements, manage production and trade across a region, and guide named mayors, noble houses and cultures.

It enters Steam Early Access on 5 November 2026. SteamDB lists an unlock time of 16:00 UTC, but the exact time can change. A free demo is available now.

Release date and price

Yes. The demo is a separate free app on Steam (app ID 4601050). It includes one map, settlement levels 1–2, the Commoner class and the core production, trade and mayor systems.

Demo guide

Yes. The developers have confirmed that demo progress carries into the Early Access version. Keep the demo installed until you confirm the release build sees your save.

PC via Steam, with Windows and Linux / SteamOS support listed. There is no macOS version and no announced PlayStation, Xbox or Switch release.

System requirements

No. Steam lists single-player only, and no co-op or multiplayer mode has been announced.

No military combat system has been announced. The conflict is economic and political: rival noble houses, elections, privileges and regional pressure. The builder remains the core of play.

Our review

The price had not been published at the time of writing on 30 October 2026. The demo is free. The developers have said the price may increase when the game leaves Early Access.

Price status

Nepos Games expects approximately 6–9 months of Early Access before the full release, using player feedback to refine systems and add content.

Roadmap

Fulfil all of the settlement’s Food and Equipment needs, then click Level up in the settlement panel. The button is disabled if any need is unmet. You can also level a settlement down to free supply for another one.

Supply the settlement with equipment. At the Peasant tier, that means wooden chests or wool tunics. More equipment also increases the maximum number of workers in buildings at level two and above.

Reach level two, build a small market or raft port, connect the regions by road or navigable river, then open the trade screen with T. Choose a product, select the origin and destination, enable auto-trade and create the route.

Trade routes guide

Check production first, then the transport. The origin may lack a surplus, the road may not reach the market square, a bridge may be missing, a raft port may be facing the wrong way, or heavy goods may be trying to travel by road.

Settlements can be moved for free within their region. At the time of writing, the demo does not expose a delete-settlement button; moving is the supported way to reposition a settlement. Individual buildings can be demolished and replaced.

Yes. Demolish the building and construct a new one. Even starting buildings can be replaced. This is useful when a settlement’s original role no longer fits the region.

Each settlement has a named mayor with a production bonus tied to specific building types. Mayors belong to noble houses and can be swapped freely in the current build, with no penalty. Match the bonus to the settlement’s actual production.

Cultures are groups of settlers with a homeland, a population share and a set of Traditional Products. Their bonuses scale with population share and can be strengthened by renown and synergy traits.

The Assembly is where noble houses propose regional privileges, stewards vote and the winning privilege is granted to an eligible region. Only regions whose steward voted for the winner can receive it.

A Linux / SteamOS build exists, but Valve had not issued an official Steam Deck rating at the time of writing. There is no macOS version listed on Steam.

They share a medieval setting, but Manor Lords focuses on one detailed town and battles, while County of Fortune focuses on multiple settlements, regional logistics and noble-house politics.
